Maintenance · 10-Year Lifespan

Moby cleans itself.
Here's how to clean Moby.

The AutoClean nozzle handles the daily hygiene work. Here is the rest of the maintenance routine — daily (nothing), weekly (2 minutes), monthly (5 minutes), and annually. Do these and Moby will outlast most parts of your bathroom.

Quick answer

Daily: nothing — AutoClean rinses the nozzle with fresh water before and after every use. Weekly: 2-minute wipedown of the body with a damp cloth. Monthly: rinse the nozzle cap area (no tools). Annually: hand-tighten check on the metal T-valve. Don't use bleach, abrasive cleaners, or remove the T-valve. With this routine, Moby has a 10+ year functional lifespan.

A bidet that needs constant cleaning isn't actually solving the hygiene problem you bought it for. Moby is built to clean itself for the daily use case, with the AutoClean nozzle rinsing fresh water before and after every deployment. The rest of the maintenance is genuinely minimal.

This page is the complete maintenance routine. Once you've read it, you don't have to think about it again.

Daily: nothing.

Seriously. Nothing. The AutoClean function:

  • Rinses the nozzle with fresh water as it deploys (before each use).
  • Rinses again as it retracts (after each use).
  • Tucks the nozzle behind a guard between uses, so nothing in the toilet bowl can splash on it.

For the daily hygiene of the nozzle itself, you don't have to do anything. That's the point of a self-cleaning design — it's the design point that separates Moby from cheap fixed-nozzle bidets that grow biofilm over time.

Weekly: 2-minute wipedown.

Once a week, run a damp microfiber cloth over the body of the bidet. Just plain water on the cloth — no cleaning products needed. You're wiping away dust, splashes, and residual condensation that accumulates on any surface in a bathroom.

  • Lift the toilet seat. The bidet sits between the seat and the bowl rim.
  • Wipe the top surface and visible side surfaces of the body. Skip the spray-out area near the nozzle.
  • Wipe the dial and the visible parts of the hose connection.
  • Drop the seat back down. Done.

Total time: under 2 minutes. Frequency: weekly is enough; some people do it whenever they wipe the toilet.

Monthly: nozzle cap area rinse.

The nozzle has a small cap area where it tucks behind its guard. Once a month — or whenever you notice anything looks like it could use it — give that area a quick rinse:

  • Press the dial briefly so the nozzle deploys.
  • Rinse the cap area with a wet microfiber cloth or simply trigger the AutoClean cycle a few times by toggling the dial.
  • Retract.

If you want to be thorough, you can use a tiny amount of mild soap (dish soap is fine) on the wet cloth, then rinse with clean water. Don't use bleach, abrasive cleaners, or anything aggressive — these can damage the seals.

Annually: T-valve hand-check.

Once a year, make sure the metal T-valve behind the toilet is still tight. The metal threads don't loosen the way plastic does, but a yearly hand-tighten check is a good habit:

  • Reach behind the toilet to where the supply line connects to the tank.
  • The T-valve sits between the line and the tank.
  • Hand-tighten gently. No wrench needed unless you can move it with your hand. If it doesn't move with your hand, it's tight enough.
  • Check for any moisture at the connection points. Dry = good. If wet, hand-tighten further or contact us.

This is a 30-second check. The metal T-valve is the part most likely to need any attention over the lifetime of the unit, and "needs attention" almost always means "hand-tighten once."

The 10-year math: A Moby properly maintained — meaning AutoClean handles daily, weekly wipedown, monthly nozzle area, annual T-valve check — has a functional lifespan of 10+ years. The metal T-valve outlasts plastic alternatives by 5-10x. The nozzle and its self-cleaning mechanism are built for the daily-use case at scale.

What NOT to do.

  • Don't use bleach. Damages internal seals, can corrode the metal T-valve threads, and leaves residue that's not great near sensitive skin.
  • Don't use abrasive cleaners (Comet, Ajax, etc). Scratches the surface and damages the nozzle's protective coating over time.
  • Don't use steel wool or rough scrubbing pads. Same scratching problem.
  • Don't remove the T-valve. If it's tight and not leaking, leave it alone. Removing and re-installing risks introducing leaks.
  • Don't try to disassemble the bidet body. The internal seals are not designed to be re-seated.
  • Don't use the bidet without the supply line fully open. Pressure issues can cause damage.

Why nozzle hygiene matters specifically for women.

A bidet's front nozzle directs water near the urethra. The hygiene of the nozzle itself becomes part of the hygiene equation. This is why we built AutoClean as a fundamental part of Moby and not an upgrade tier.

Cheap fixed-nozzle bidets without self-cleaning have a real hygiene problem: the nozzle sits exposed in the toilet bowl between uses, can accumulate biofilm, and gets used near sensitive tissue. That tradeoff is unacceptable for the use case women buy bidets for.

Moby's nozzle:

  • Tucks behind a guard between uses (not exposed in the bowl).
  • Rinses with fresh water before each use (clean surface before contact).
  • Rinses again after each use (clean surface during retraction).
  • Is built from materials that resist biofilm formation.

This is the part of the design you don't have to think about — that's the point.

Frequently asked questions.

Do I need any special cleaning products?

No. Plain water and a microfiber cloth are enough for weekly maintenance. If you want to use mild soap (dish soap is fine) for monthly nozzle area cleaning, that's optional. Avoid bleach, abrasive cleaners, and ammonia-based products.

How do I know AutoClean is working?

You'll hear/see a brief water rinse on the nozzle before each spray and again after retraction. If you don't see this happening, the nozzle may be clogged with mineral buildup (rare but possible in hard-water areas). Email us and we can troubleshoot.

What if I have hard water and I see mineral buildup?

Hard-water mineral deposits can occasionally appear on visible surfaces. Wipe with a soft cloth and a small amount of white vinegar (1:1 with water). Rinse thoroughly. Don't soak any part of the bidet in vinegar — just a wipe is enough.

Can I use disinfecting wipes?

Yes — fragrance-free disinfecting wipes (Lysol, Clorox, etc.) on the body of the bidet are fine for occasional use. Don't use them on the nozzle deployment area; rinse with clean water there.

What if the dial gets stuck or the nozzle won't deploy?

Rare, but if it happens: turn off the water at the supply valve, gently flex the dial through its full range a few times. If still stuck, contact us — most issues are simple fixes that don't require replacement.

How long does the unit really last?

10+ years with normal use and the maintenance routine on this page. The metal T-valve doesn't fail like plastic ones. The internal seals are rated for daily use over a decade. The nozzle assembly is built for the same.

Self-cleaning. Self-maintaining. Self-evident.
